For years you've probably been hearing about '5 a day'. Here, we'll delve a little deeper than just '5 a day'. We're going to discuss the benefits of having fruit and veg regularly and what's actually in F & V that makes them so good for us.

Fruit and vegetables provide us with many different types of vitamins and minerals as well as some providing assistance with digestion. Fruit and vegetables contain all different types of vitamins and minerals as well as being a great source of dietary fibre. This is vital in maintaining a healthy gut and avoiding constipation and other digestion issues.


The world health organisation (WHO) recommend that people eat 5 portions of fruit a day which is 80g. This comes to around 400g a day as this helps lower the risk of serious health complications such as heart disease, some types of cancer and even stroke. The evidence provides by the World Health Organisation, was used as the basis for the 5-a-day campaign.


Fruit and vegetable can be very beneficial and when buying loose items (so that nothing or very little goes to waste) they can be extremely budget friendly. By making small changes like replaces your library chocolate with a an apple and a fruit juice, the savings will start to show as well as the health benefits you will be enduring.
